By Wines in Niagara
Wines in Niagara wishes all its readers and advertisers a Merry Christmas and the happiest of holidays, however you celebrate and wherever you are.
It’s a Christmas where wineries in Ontario are enjoying a 13% HST tax holiday, thanks to the federal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, that seems doomed to falling very soon (but that’s another story), during a traditionally slow period for selling wine. There is still work to be done to increase the market share of VQA wines in Ontario, maybe and hopefully, a tax break will prompt consumers to reach for local wines when they go shopping during the winter months.
No matter how you choose to spend your money this season, Wines in Niagara truly hopes you find peace and joy during the holidays surrounded by family and friends.
To our advertisers, who continue to support and have supported Wines in Niagara, we thank you kindly and wish you all a peaceful and healthy Christmas and holidays. We believe in supporting local businesses for everything we do on this website — using local web hosting, supporting local wines, and local businesses. We only accept advertising from real people, not mega-global companies that return nothing to this (or any) community. Without your support this website would not exist; with your support you are helping independent journalism thrive.
A special shoutout to the many winemakers, winery owners, grape growers, sources, tipsters, and industry associations; this website is not possible without your support and input. We toast every one of you. And lastly, to the readers who take the time to visit this website when there are so many choices vying for your attention, we thank you and wish you the best of the season.
We hope you appreciate local journalism unfettered by the growing trend of influencer-based content that amounts to pay for play and a dumbing down of wine content devoid of critical discourse. We pride ourselves on independent thought in our wine reviews and our reporting on the industry. Our passion is delivering information to consumers that will help them navigate their way to the best wines produced in Ontario and keep them updated on the important issues that shape the industry.
On Thursday (Dec. 26), we will reveal our 16th edition of the Most Thrilling Niagara White and Red Wines of 2024, including our Most Thrilling Red and White Wines of the year, as well as the Top 10 wines for both categories. So, please come back on Thursday and have a read.
